Who is the site for?

One of the most important componants to developing a website is to know who is going to be using it. Here are some questions you might ask yourself.

  • What is the age range of your target audience?

  • Will your site appeal to more women or men? What is the mix?

  • Which country do your visitors live in?

  • Do they live in urban or rural areas?

Why people visit your website?

  • Your content and design should be influenced by the goals of your users.

What are your visitors are trying to achieve?

  • You are looking for key tasks and motivations that users are trying to fulfill.

  • What information your visitors need.

  • How often will they be visiting your site?

  • How often is the subject updated?

  • How often do the same people return to purchase from you?

A site map is a diagram that helps you plan the structure and flow of the site.

A wireframe is a simple sketch of the key information that needs to go on each page of a site.

Basic HTML Info

  • HTML describes the strcture of pages.

  • HTML uses tags (characters that sit inside angled brackets) to give the information they surround special meaning.

  • Tags are often referred to as elements.

  • Tags usually come in pairs. The opening tag denotes the start of a piece of content; the closing tag denotes the end.

  • Opening tags can carry attributes, which tell us more about the content of that element.

  • Attributes require a name and a value.

  • To learn HTML you need to know what tags are available for you to use.
